Prologue 3: The Decision & The Promise

Prince Ash had a hard time sleeping that night. Needless to say, he was thrilled to receive the invitation to this school where he would learn magic, but he would be away form his home for two whole years like the letter said.

As he lay in his blue four-poster bed with his hands behind his head and Pikachu sleeping next to him, he kept thinking to himself as he replayed the conversation he had with his friends after he read the letter.

(Flashback, three hours ago)

"I can’t believe it.” Ash said as he looked at his friends after reading the letter. Everyone in the banquet hall couldn’t believe their ears as they heard what Ash read. Nobody said anything for about a minute until Misty decided to break the silence.
“That’s some offer your getting.” She said.
“No kidding.” Iris agreed. “To think that the prince would get such an invititation.”
“Yeah, but I never even heard of such a school like that. Or Pokémon Sorcery for that matter.” Said Tracey.
“Me neither.” Said Serena.

Nobody in the banquet hall seemed to have heard of such things until…

“I have.” Said Counselor Oak.
Everybody turned their heads towards the counselor in surprise.
“You have, Grandpa?” asked Sir Gary.
“Indeed. I may have never been to the island where the academy is located, but I have known about it.” Said Oak.
“Then tell us.” Said May in eagerness.

Oak smiled as he took a seat and began his explanation.

“The Academy of Pokémon Sorcery is a school on the island of Celesta to the east.” He said. "It invites a select number of students to come and learn the knowledge and art of Pokémon Sorcery.”
“What’s Pokémon Sorcery?” Asked Max.
“Pokémon Sorcery is a talent where people can perform the abilities that Pokémon know of.” Oak answered.
“So you’re saying that students at the academy can learn to do things like maybe breathing flamethrower from their mouths like Fire types, or using Vine Whips on their arms like Grass types? Asked Tracey.
“Exactly. And much more.” Replied Oak. “The things students learn at the academy will also strengthen the bonds between them and Pokémon.”

Prince Ash was amazed at hearing the counselor’s explanation about the school.

'Come to think of it, that school does seem to ring a bell somewhere.'
He thought 'But I just can’t put my finger on it. Where DID I hear that name before?'
“But how could they have known about the prince?” Questioned Sir Kenny.
“Well it just so happens, that Headmaster Sycamore happens to be an old friend of mine.” Said Oak. “We always send letters to keep in touch. I sometimes write about the prince in some of those letters and it appears that Sycamore has taken an interest in having Ash as a student.”
As the counselor finished his explanation, everyone then faced the prince.
“Well sire, are you going to go?” Asked Dawn.
“Honestly, I just don’t know what to decide.” Ash said. “Believe me, I would really, really love to go, but that means I would be away from the kingdom for two whole years.”
“Yeah, but at least you’ll be able to visit us when the holidays come, right?” pointed out Clemont.
“I’m afraid not, Clemont.” Oak said with a frown.
“What do you mean?” Questioned Max.
“I learned that when winter comes, the seas near Celesta Island become crowded with very large glaciers and icebergs that drift from the north making it very dangerous to travel by sea around those waters.” Said Oak.
“Well what about summer?” asked Sir Brock.
“I’m afraid Prince Ash wont be home for summer either because the academy has special activities for students to participate and enjoy for the season.” Oak replied.
“So that means... Ash will be away for the two whole years without any chance of visiting us.” Concluded Sir Drew.
“I’m afraid so.” Replied Oak with a frown.

Silence resumed in the banquet hall until the prince broke it.
“Well, I’ll have plenty of time to think of my decision to go or not.” He said as he stood up from his chair. “For now, I think I’ll just go to bed.”

And with that he left the banquet hall and went straight to his tower with Pikachu in tow.

(Flashback end)

As Ash continues thinking about the conversation, his mind was swimming with the decision to either go or not while at the same time, he’s also trying to remember where he’s heard the name of the academy before. Slowly but surely, the memories seem to flood back into his head. He remembered being in the castle library at the age of five, happily studying about the Pokémon world. Ash kept thinking deep about his childhood until finally…

'Now I remember!'
He thought to himself as an idea came to his mind. 'First thing in the morning, I’m heading into town. I know JUST the person to talk to.'

And with that, he closed his eyes and finally drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Ash and Pikachu went straight to the stables after they ate breakfast. Soon, the two are riding off into Pallet Castle Town. Meanwhile in one of the castle's halls, Serena was watching Ash riding off to town from the window. Out of all the people in Pallet castle, Serena was the most shocked upon hearing what Ash read in that letter last night. Deep down, she really didn’t want Ash to leave the kingdom. If he decided to go to that academy, then that would mean that Serena wont be able to spend time with Ash for the two years. She was even intending to confess her feelings to him sometime this year. If Ash decided to go, she would have to wait even longer to confess to him until he returns.

'What should I do if he decides to go?'
She thought to herself. 'Maybe I should try to convince him to stay and…' She stopped herself when she realized what she was thinking. 'What am I saying?! I feel so selfish! I can’t have Ash make his choice because I said so! It’s his decision. If he really wants to go to that academy for two years, then that’s ok. I’ll understand. If going there will make him happy, then I’ll be happy too. I’ll be patient for his return. All I can do now is wait for his decision.'
“Something on your mind, Serena?” asked the voice of Misty.

Serena snapped out of her thinking and blushed in embarrassment.
“Uh... n-no! Nothing!” She stuttered. “I was just... uh... that is... um…”

She was cut off however when they suddenly heard a yell from around the corner of the hall.

“Let go of it!” yelled the voice of Sir Brock.

Serena and Misty went down the hall and turned left at the corner to see see Brock in a pink apron and Queen Delia’s Mr. Mime, Mimey in a green apron fighting over a broom.

“Come on Mr. Mime, I wanna sweep for the Queen today!” Exclaimed Sir Brock as he attempted to pull the broom towards him.
“Mime! Mime!” Mimey yelled in protest as he did the same.

Both of the handmaidens sweat dropped as they watch. Like everyone else in the castle, they know that Sir Brock not only serves as the captain of the royal knights, but also enjoys doing chores. Whether it be sweeping, dusting, washing, polishing or even sewing, Sir Brock enjoys doing it all. Being very loyal to Queen Delia, he doesn’t even care if she kindly insists on taking a day off. Aside from cleaning, Sir Brock also sometimes helps out Cilan and his brothers in the kitchen along with Clemont whenever they’re preparing a very large feast. Sir Brock is also best known for being the royal Pokémon Doctor. Whenever Nurse Joy needs help in the castle's hospital wing treating her patients, Sir Brock would always pitch in and help her out, though sometimes he would attempt to woo her, which ends up with either getting poison jabbed by his Croagunk or being pulled away by the ear by Misty or Squire Max whenever they’re close by.

As the handmaidens leave the squabble, Serena couldn’t help but continue thinking about the prince.

'I hope you’ll make your decision soon, Ash.'
She thought as she goes off with Misty.

As Ash and Pikachu rode on Rapidash through the streets of Pallet Castle Town, the people took notice and greeted them warmly to which, they happily returned.

“Hello, Prince Ash.” A man greeted.
“Hello, sir.” Ash replied.
“Good morning, sire.” A woman said.
“Good morning, ma’am." Ash said kindly, “Beautiful day, isn’t it?”
“Yes it is.” The woman replied with a smile. “And I must say your darling little Pikachu is looking as adorable as always.”
“Pika Pika.” Pikachu said as he blushed and scratched the back of his head.
“Hello, Prince Ash.” A group of girls cooed as they stopped their conversation upon seeing the prince approaching them.
“Hi there.” Ash said, not knowing, or even paying attention that those girls were flirting with him. His greeting however, made them giggle and sigh dreamily as he left.
Ash and Pikachu continued through the streets until they finally arrived at their destination.
“Whoa, Rapidash.” Ash said as Rapidash came to a stop in front of what appears to be a large school building. Ash dismounted and fed Rapidash a berry he had in his satchel.
“Thanks for the ride, Rapidash. You stay here and rest those legs of yours. I’ll be back in a while.” He said.
The Fire Horse acknowledged and stayed put. As Ash and Pikachu approached the front doors, Ash suddenly remembered something.
“Hey Pikachu, why don’t you stay out here and wait for me?” He asked his partner.
“Pi?” Pikachu asked in confusion.
“I have a feeling that this might take a while and I don’t want you to get bored. So are you okay with waiting for me out here?”
Pikachu thought for a moment and figured that Ash’s business inside might indeed take a while.
“Pika.” Pikachu agreed with a nod as he hopped off of Ash’s shoulder and went to a nearby apple tree. He then jumped up and used his Iron Tail to cut an apple down from a branch and into his paws.
“Thanks, buddy. I’ll be out in a while. I promise.” Ash said as he entered the building.

Ash walked through the halls of the building passing by doors that lead to many different classrooms. He then sees a man carrying some books.
“Excuse me, sir.” He politely said as he approached the man.
“Prince Ash!” the man said with a surprised face. “Well this is unexpected. What brings you here?”
“I’m here to see someone. You wouldn’t happen to know where the beginner’s classroom is do you?” Ash asked.
The man smiled. “Ah, going to see her are you? Well you’re in luck, sire; I was just on my way to that classroom to deliver these books. If you’d like, I could lead you there.”
“I’d appreciate that, thanks.” The prince said, and he followed the man down the hall.

They walked for a few minutes until they reached a door near the end of the hall.
“Please wait here.” The man requested as he knocked on the door.
“Come in.” sounded the voice of a woman that Ash knows well.
“Excuse me, but I’m here to deliver the books you’ve requested.” The man said as he entered the classroom.
“Oh thank you, Walter. I’ve been expecting these.” Said the woman.
“Also, there’s someone outside the door here to see you.” Added Walter.
“Really? Who?” The woman asked.

Knowing his cue, Ash stepped into the classroom. It was filled with desks where many children about Max’s age were seated. Ash then sees the woman. She has taupe colored hair that is tied up into two pigtails with a red bow that matches her eyes. She wears a white shirt with a grey school uniform skirt and a red tie. She’s also wearing red stockings and black dress shoes. When she saw Ash, her eyes widened as she gasped and her students did the same.

“Prince Ash Ketchum?! Is that really you?!” She asked in shock.
“Hi, Ms. Roxanne. It’s been a long time.” Ash greeted with a smile.

Roxanne ran towards the prince and embraced him tightly.

“Oh, Ash! It’s been so long!” She exclaimed as she smiled. “Just look at how much you’ve grown!"
“Yeah I know.” Ash replied as he returned the hug. “How’s it been?”
“I'm doing just fine, Ash.” She said. “Though I really miss all those days when I tutored you at the castle library when you were little."
“Yeah me too.” Said Ash.

Indeed, Roxanne used to be Ash’s tutor when he was younger. Back then, she would come to the castle every weekday to teach Ash about the Pokémon world, which Ash really enjoys learning about. It was thanks to Roxanne that Ash gained his knowledge about Pokémon and the rest of the world.

The students got out of their seats and surrounded Ash, all with excited faces.

“Wow, Prince Ash!”
“I can’t believe you’re here in our classroom!”
“My big sister really wants to marry you one day!”
“Did you bring any of your Pokémon your majesty? ”
“Can we see them?”

“Alright class, settle down.” Roxanne calmly said and all the students returned to their seats.
“So Ash, what brings you here? Roxanne asked. “I have a feeling that you’re not here to just visit me and say hello.”
“You’re right.” Said Ash. "I really need to discuss something very important with you.”
“Well then, let’s go to my office and discuss it over some tea, shall we?” Roxanne suggested.
“That sounds good, thanks.” Ash kindly said.
“Alright everyone, I will return a while.” She told her students. “Please continue your assignments and I’ll be collecting them when I return. I don’t want any trouble while I’m gone. Understand?”
“Yes Ma’am.” They said and the two left the classroom to her office.

Roxanne led Ash to a room nearby where he took a seat and Roxanne gave him a warm cup of tea.
“So Ash, now that we’re reacquainted, what do you need to discuss about?” Roxanne asked as she took a seat of her own.
The prince took a deep breath as he took a sip from his tea.
“Well, it’s like this,” He began and he was off, explaining what happened last evening, from the Dragonite messenger that came to the castle unexpectedly, to reading the letter he received, to Counselor Oak’s explanation of the school. Roxanne was very surprised as Ash explained it all.
“And that’s pretty much it.” He finished with a sigh.
“I see.” Said Roxanne. “Now I understand why you came to see me.”
"Right." Ash said with a nod. “It’s because you told me once that you used to be a teacher at that place before you came to the kingdom and became my tutor and taught me about the Pokémon world.”
“Indeed, I used to teach Rock type spells back there before I decided to retire." Said Roxanne. “Though I no longer teach spells here, I still have the knowledge of it.”
"Can you still do some of those spells?” Asked the prince.

Roxanne then extended her right arm towards a potted bamboo plant with rocks in it. Three of the rocks began to shake and they levitated out of the pot and into the air. They swirled in a circle above Ash’s head forming like a sort of halo formation. Ash laughed at what was happening before the rocks floated back to their place in the pot.

“You always were so adorable whenever you asked me to show you my tricks.” Roxanne said with a smile.
“Do you miss being a teacher back at the academy?” Ash asked.
“Sometimes, but I really love my new life here in the kingdom teaching the children about the Pokémon world.” She answered. “But let me ask you this, do you want to go to the academy?”
“That’s just the thing, I just don’t know what to decide.” Said Ash. “Believe me, I would really love to go, but like I told you, I would be away for two whole years and I’m not sure about leaving my mom and all of my friends here while I’m far away from home. I just don’t know what to do.”
“Ash, listen carefully to what I’m about to tell you.” Roxanne said.
“Alright.” The prince acknowledged.
“There comes a time in everyone’s life when they make a difficult decision in their life. Take it from me. It was very difficult for me to make my decision to retire from the academy and come here. It was hard for me to leave the rest of the teachers and staff who are all very good friends of mine, but they all understood when I told them. With their support, I retired from the academy and look where I ended up, I became your tutor at the castle and I am now living happily here in the kingdom teaching all of the children about Pokémon.“
“Wow.” Ash said in amazement.
“All I’m saying is that we all make tough decisions in life, but sometimes the toughest decisions would lead to great things."

Ash thought at everything that Roxanne just explained. He was still a little bit unsure about his choices, but Roxanne’s words had inspired him and had removed the stress in his head about making his decision. Ash then gave his former tutor a heartwarming smile.

“Thanks Roxanne. Everything you just said helped me out a lot.” He said.
“So have you decided yet?” She asks while she returns the smile.
“No, but you’ve just made things easier for me to think about my decision to go.” He replied.
“I’m not saying that you should go. It’s still your choice.” Roxanne advised.
“I know. But like I said, thanks to you, thinking about my decision should be a lot easier from here on out.” Said Ash. “In fact, I’d say that I’ll have made my decision by the end of the day.”
“That’s great to hear Ash.” Said Roxanne.
Ash then got up from his chair and shook the teacher’s hand.
“Thanks for everything.” He said gratefully.
“Always happy to help you out.” She replied. “Say, before you leave, how would you like to see my Pokémon after all this time?”
“Yeah! I would love to!” Ash happily accepted.

While Prince Ash was having his conversation with Roxanne, Pikachu was finishing up the apple he was eating as he sat under the shade of the apple tree outside. Feeling satisfied, he threw the apple core into a nearby bin and decided to wait for Ash. As he waited, he wondered whether Ash would decide to go to this academy or not. He figured that whatever decision Ash makes, he’ll be happy as long as Ash is happy with his decision and he gets to come along with the rest of Ash’s pokemon like the letter said.

Suddenly, two apple cores hit Pikachu’s head and landed between his feet. As Pikachu rubbed the spot on his head where the apples hit, he looked at the two eaten cores before him. He sensed that he was being watched, He then sniffed the air and caught a very familiar scent. Knowing who’s been watching him, he chuckled as he spoke in his tongue.

“Alright you two, come on out. I know you’re there.”
He said as he looked up at the thick branches above him.

Just as he figured, two pairs of eyes peered through the leaves and their heads popped out upside down. It was Pikachu’s good friends, The Pichu Bros. Though they’re identical twins, the older brother, Pichu Big, has a scruff of fur on the top of his head while his younger brother, Pichu little, does not.

“How’d you know it was us?”
Asked Pichu Big.
“I know your smell anywhere boys. Plus, your leftovers pretty much gave me the first clue.” Pikachu said as he pointed to the two apple cores.
“Darn. And we were hoping to surprise ya.” Pichu Little said as he and his brother came down and tossed their apple cores in the bin.
“So anyways, what brings you here Pikachu?” Asked Pichu Big. “Where’s the prince by the way?”
“He’s inside that building discussing something important with someone.”  Pikachu said.
“I see.” Said Pichu Big. “So are you gonna come to our clubhouse and play with us today?”
“I can’t.” Pikachu said sadly. “And I wont be able to see you guys for some time.”
“What do you mean?” Pichu Little asked with a confused expression.
Pikachu explained to the Pichu Bros. about the letter Ash received yesterday and how they would be away for the two years. Both Pichus expressions turned from surprise to shock.
“So does that mean that you’ll be gone for two years?” Pichu Big asked.
“If he decides to go, then yes” Said Pikachu.
“But you can’t go!” Pichu Little exclaimed. “It’ll be so boring for us around here without you!”
“I know, but if Ash really wants to go to this place for two years, then so do I.” Pikachu said. “If I do go, I’m sure that you guys will be fine. I don’t want you to be sad that I might be gone for two years. If I do leave, I will miss you, but I still want you two to have fun while I’m gone okay?”
“Okay.” the Pichu Bros. said with a sigh.

Pikachu then sees Prince Ash coming out the front door of the school building talking to Roxanne.
“I still can’t believe that your Nosepass evolved into Probopass after all this time. Well, thanks for the talk Roxanne.” Ash said.
“Anytime Ash.” Roxanne replied. “Just know that if you need any help, you’re more than welcome to come and talk to me.”
“Thanks, I will.” Ash promised. He then called out. “Pikachu! Come on buddy lets go.”
“I gotta go guys. Bye.” He said to the Pichu Bros. as he scurried off and jumped onto Ash’s shoulder. Ash didn’t even notice the Pichu Bros. nearby.

The Pichu Bros. watched as Ash and Pikachu mounted on his Rapidash and rode away.
“What are we going to do Big Bro?” Pichu Little asked.
“I don’t know Baby Bro.” Said Pichu Big.
They then looked at each other in the eyes and they both gave a determined nod. The brotherly link between them signifies that they were both thinking the same thing.
“Emergency Meeting.” They said in unison and they scurried off to a nearby rain pipe, climbed it to the rooftop and raced across the rooftops of the town.

The Pichu Bros. kept running and jumping across rooftop to rooftop for a few minutes until they slid down another rain pipe down into a large open alley. A large tree stands in the center of the alley with a treehouse being held up within its branches. A long, hollow and large pipe connects from one side of the treehouse and coils around the tree in a spiral and ends at the base of the tree serving as a slide. The Bros. climbed inside the treehouse using a ladder, and both gathered a pair of metallic lids from inside. They then climbed to the rooftop, raised the metallic lids above their heads and banged their lids together, making loud noises in the process.

Elsewhere in town, A Smoochum was checking her reflection at a store window along with her best friend Cleffa near the market in Saffron Court, one of the many districts in Pallet Castle Town.
“There. That should do it.” Smoochum said as she straightened her hair. “How do I look?” She asked Cleffa.
“Cute as always Smoochum!” Complimented the star shaped Pokémon.
“Why thank you!” Smoochum said as she smiled.
“BANG! BANG! BANG!” A loud noise sounded in the distance getting the attention of Smoochum and Cleffa.
“Did you hear that?” Cleffa asked.
“It’s the Pichu Bros. and they’re calling us!” Said Smoochum.
“We better get to the clubhouse.” Suggested Cleffa.
“Right.” Smoochum agreed, and the two ran towards the source of the noise.

At a park in Celadon Boulevard, a Teddiursa was sitting on a bench getting ready to eat a sandwich that a kind man gave to him at the market.
“Oh boy! I can’t wait to eat this!” He said excitedly while his mouth watered. “Open mouth, between the gums, look out stomach, here it comes!” Just as he was about to take the first bite…
“BANG! BANG! BANG!”
“The Pichu Bros. And they’re calling for a meeting? Now?” He groaned before sighing. “This is just one of those days isn’t it? Well, at least I can still have my lunch on the go."
And so, he got off the bench and ran off to answer the call while eating his sandwich at the same time.

In Cinnabar Street, a Magby was sunbathing on the rooftops. He was about to flip himself when…
“BANG! BANG! BANG!”
“The Bros.?“ Magby wondered as he sat up. “Better go see what’s up. Sounds like an emergency.” Magby then climbed down a nearby ladder and went off to find out what the Pichu Bros, are calling for.

In Cerulean Way, a Whooper was relaxing in the waters of the canals.
“Ah, there’s nothing like a soothing swim in the canal to clear my mind.” He said as his head floated on the surface while the rest of his body was submerged.
“BANG! BANG! BANG!”
“Uh oh.” Whooper said as he heard the noise. “Sounds like the Pichu Bros. are calling for an emergency meeting. I should get going.” Whooper swam to a nearby dock and jumped out of the water. After that, he ran off to see his friends.

In Fuchsia Avenue, a Tyrogue was having an afternoon jog in the streets.
Gotta keep up the pace and stay in shape.” He huffed.
“BANG! BANG! BANG!”
Hearing the noise made Tyrogue stop his jogging.
The Bros. I wonder what’s up?” He said. “The clubhouse is a little bit far from here but I’m not complaining, I could use a few more blocks to jog.” As Tyrogue said that, he began to jog again to the clubhouse where the Pichu Bros. are calling.

As Pichu Bros. waited for their friends to arrive, they were discussing a plan that they will explain to the others at the meeting.
Soon, the Pichu Posse arrived at the alley and into the clubhouse where they all waited to know why they called.
“Hey what’s up guys?” Asked Magby
“Yeah. How come you called for an emergency meeting?” Asked Teddiursa.
“Because we’ve got news for you guys.” Said Pichu Little.
“Ok, so what’s the word?" Questioned Cleffa.

The Pichu Bros. explained their encounter with the prince’s Pikachu this morning and the possibility that he might leave the kingdom with the prince and the rest of their Pokémon for two years. None of their friends could hold down their shock as they listened.
“So Mr. Pikachu is leaving the kingdom for two whole years?” Asked Whooper.
“He says that if the prince wants to go this place, then so does he.” Pichu Big said.
“But he can’t leave!” Exclaimed Smoochum “Things will be so boring around here with him away.”
“That’s why Big Bro and I have come up with a plan.” Said Pichu Little.
“A Plan?” Questioned Tyrogue. “What plan?”
“Gather round and we’ll tell you.” Pichu Big told them.
As the gang did so, the brothers whispered the plan that they came up with. When they finished, the Pichu Posse had smiles on their faces.
“That’s a good plan!” Complimented Smoochum.
“A really good plan!” Added whooper.
“I’m all for it.” Said Teddiursa.
Me too!” Agreed Cleffa.
“So am I, but there's just problem. How would we know if the prince decides to go?” Reminded Tyrogue. “We can’t just follow the prince and wait until he decides. He might see us and we could get in trouble. We need someone to eavesdrop on him without him knowing.”
The gang thought for a moment until Magby snapped his fingers.
“I’ve got it! I have friend of mine who’s a Spearow. I can ask him if he can eavesdrop on the prince and Mr. Pikachu until he’s heard the decision.” He said.
“Good idea Magby.” Said Pichu Little.
“Well then, let’s make it unanimous." Said Pichu Big. “All those in favor pf going along with the plan, say aye.”
“Aye!.” They all said as they raised their paws while Whooper raised his tail.
“Those opposed?” Asked Pichu Little.
Silence ensued.
“The ayes have it! Meeting’s adjourned!” Both Pichus said and with that, Magby ran out of the clubhouse to find his Spearow friend.
“All we can do now is wait.” Said Pichu Big.
“I hope it doesn’t take too long.” Said Pichu Little.

Meanwhile at the fields in the east, Prince Ash and Pikachu were lying on the grass enjoying a little nap as the grass sways with the wind.  Ash made a quick stop to Pallet Castle to bring all of his Pokémon with him and Pikachu, hoping that thinking of his decision to go would be even easier with them around. Ash was the first one to wake up from his nap. He sat up and looked at all of his Pokémon, who were all still sleeping. He then looked up at the sky and took a deep breath as he closed his eyes. He thought about all the good times he’s had with all of his Pokémon since he was very little. He remembered all the amazing moves they can do whenever they battle.

As he thought about the memories he’s had with his Pokémon, something occurred to him. He remembered sometimes wondering what would it be like to breathe fire like his Fire types when they used Flamethrower, to unleash a horde of leaves like his Grass types, to spray water like his Water types, to bring out gusts of wind like his Flying types and to shoot out electricity like Pikachu. He also remembered that when he was a little boy, he would sometimes pretend to be his Pokémon and use their moves, amusing his mother, Counselor Oak, the guards, and the rest of his friends. He realized that if he goes to this academy he’d be able to fulfill his childhood wish and make it reality. He also knows that he’d push the bond between him and all of his Pokémon even further.

Just then Ash sensed the presence of a familiar figure approaching him. The figure had a familiar… aura that Ash was highly aware of. With his eyes still closed he spoke to the figure.
“Hi Lucario. What brings you here?” Ash’s greeting to the figure awoke Pikachu and the rest of his Pokémon. When they all see Lucario they happily greeted him and he greeted back.
“Hello Prince Ash.” Lucario spoke though telepathy. “I sense that you already knew that I was approaching you. I didn’t even make a sound with my footsteps. Very Impressive.“

Lucario was well known throughout the kingdom for his ability to use telepathy to speak unlike other Lucarios. He is also well known to the prince’s mentor in using aura. Because he came from a long line of Aura Guardians, Ash was born with the gift of using aura. For years, Ash has trained under the Lucario’s guidance on controlling aura. Though he hasn’t truly mastered the concept, Ash already knows how to sense the aura of his surroundings.

“As for your question,” Lucario continued. “I was meditating at the beach when I overheard some of your friends talking about the news of your invitation to this academy.”
“So you heard the news huh?” Questioned Ash.
“I also heard that your also having some difficulty of deciding to go or not.”
“Yeah, I am.” Ash said. “But now, thinking about my decision is a bit more easier.”
“I see.” Lucario said.

Ash then took another deep breath before finally opening his eyes
with a determined face.

“I’ve decided,” He said at last.

“You have?” Lucario asked.
“Yeah.” Ash replied. “I’ve decided to go to the academy of Pokémon Sorcery.” He then turned to Pikachu. “Whaddya say buddy? Are you with me?” He asked.
“Pikachu!” Pikachu said with excitement.
Ash then faced the rest of his Pokémon. “How about it everybody? You all excited too?”

All of his Pokémon replied with a cheer as they came to their trainer and hugged him. Lucario smiled as he watches the prince happily accepting all the love and affection from his Pokémon. Seeing this, Lucario came with a decision of his own.

“In that case, then I’ll come too.” He said.

Ash was surprised upon hearing what Lucario just said.

“You will?” He asked. “Does that mean…”
“Yes, I would like to join your Pokémon team and accompany you to the academy. I would like to see how you would progress as a Pokémon Sorcerer. It’ll also be a good opportunity for you to train more to become an Aura Guardian.”

Prince Ash was very surprised. He couldn’t believe that his mentor in controlling aura actually wants to join his team. Ash then smiled.
“In that case Lucario, welcome to the group!” He said.
“Thank you Ash. I promise that I won’t let you down.” Lucario said.
“I know you won’t. We’ll be a great team. Right guys?” He asked his Pokémon, who all replied with a cheer.

“Well, now that I’ve decided, I guess there’s nothing left for me to do but to head back to the castle, tell everybody the good news and write a letter to the academy telling them that I accept the invitation.” Ash said as he stood up.

He was about to call his Pokémon and capture Lucario into his Pokégem when all of a sudden…

KABOOM!!!

An explosion appeared at the top of a small nearby cliff, surprising everyone.

“What’s going on?!” Ash yelled.

When the smoke cleared, two people were standing at the cliff. A man with lavender colored hair that reached down to his ears and a woman with long crimson colored hair that is swept back. Both were wearing black boots, black gloves and white uniforms with a fuchsia colored R in the center. Standing in between the man and the woman was a Meowth and a Wobbuffet.

“Oh no.” Ash groaned as he palmed his face, knowing all too well who they are as they begin their usual motto.

“Prepare for trouble!”
“Make it double!”
“To protect the world from devastation!”
“To unite all peoples within our nation!”
“To denounce the evils of truth and love!”
“To extend our reach to the stars above!”
“Jessie!”
“James!”
“Team Riot soars off at the speed of light!”
“Surrender now or prepare to fight fight fight!”
“Meowth that’s right!”
“Wobbuffet!”

“Team Riot, this is a really bad time to try to take my Pokémon.” Ash said calmly.
“Says you, Prince Twerp!” Retorted Jessie as she brought out her crimson colored Pokégem. “Anytime for us is a good time!”
“And this is a good time for us to steal Pikachu and the rest of your Pokémon!” Said James as he brought out his lavender colored Pokégem.
“Yeah! So you hand dem over now!” Meowth said in human speech.
“Wobbuffet!” The Patient Pokémon said

Ash just stared at Team Riot for a moment.
“Alright guys, but first, why don’t you meet the three new members to my team before you try to make a move?” He asked while smirking.

Team Riot realized just now that they never noticed how many Pokémon the prince has with him right now. They looked and realized that they are horribly outnumbered as they see all of Ash’s Pokémon glaring at them. Other than that, they also saw Honedge who had his blade drawn out of his scabbard. Then they see Ash’s new Lucario, who was ready to unleash an attack as soon an his new trainer gives the word Ad finally they see to their great shock and terror…

“Are y-you seeing wh-what I’m s-seeing?” Stuttered Jessie.
“Is th-th-that r-r-really a… a…” James said, unable to finish his sentence.
“A livin' breathin' Aerodactyl!” Meowth finished as he screamed.
“Wobbu!” Wobbuffet said in terror.

“Alright everybody, give it everything you got!” Ash told his Pokémon.

All of his Pokémon unleashed their strongest attacks right at Team Riot. The attacks swirled and combined into a massive typhoon of attacks. The typhoon soon collided with Team Riot as they scream in fear of the attack, resulting in an explosion that sends them flying through the air.

“To think, Prince Twerp has actually caught himself a Honedge, that pesky Lucario and a real live Aerodactyl.” Said a still shocked James as he flew.
“Well we’ll just have to find another way to get Pikachu and the rest of his Pokémon so we can give them to the boss.” Said Jessie.
“We’ll think of a plan in another chapter to dis story.” Meowth said. “But in da mean time…”

“TEAM RIOT’S SOARING OFF AGAIN!!!” They all screamed.
“Wobbuffet!” Wobbuffet yelled.

And with that, Team Riot disappeared into the sky.

“And there they go.” Ash said feeling satisfied. He then faced his Pokémon. “Well guys, whaddya say we head back to the castle to tell everyone the good news?” He asked.
They all gave a cheer of agreement and Ash called them all back into his Pokégem and after catching Lucario, he and Pikachu are the only ones left.
“Lets go home, Pikachu.” Ash said.
“Pika Pikapi.” Pikachu replied as he jumped onto Ash’s shoulder.

Ash then ran to a nearby farm where he left his Rapidash to ride off back home.

“Your majesty, are you sure you really want to do this?” Asked May.
“I’ve made my decision, May and my decision stands.” Ash said as he walked down a hall holding an envelope with his friends following him.

When Ash returned to the castle and told everyone about his decision, they all understood and were pleased that he’s very happy and excited about going to the academy. They were even more pleased when they learned that Lucario has joined Ash’s team. Now, they're walking out of the hall and into the courtyard in sunset where the Dragonite messenger was staying

Ash then sees the Dragonite resting in one of the flower gardens of the courtyard.
“Hey, Dragonite!” he called.
The Dragonite woke up and happily greeted the group upon seeing them.
Ash looked back at his friends who all gave him a reassuring smile. He took a deep breath, knowing that it’s now or never.

“Here Dragonite, take this letter back to the academy.” He said as he handed the envelope to Dragonite. “Be sure that Headmaster Sycamore gets this letter safe and sound.”
Dragonite took the letter and placed it nice and secure in her bag.

“And take this as well in case you get hungry during your flight.” Ash said as he gave Dragonite a medium sized pouch of berries from the berry garden of one of the castle’s other courtyards. Dragonite smiled and growled in thanks as she placed the pouch in her bag as well. She then took a few steps back and with a wave goodbye to everyone who all waved back, Dragonite took to the skies and flew off out of sight to the east.

“So, is it done?” sounded the voice of Counselor Oak.

Everybody turned around to see him, and Queen Delia right behind them.

“Yeah. Ash replied with a nod. “I gave Dragonite the letter of my acceptance to the academy. She just took off right now."
“Oh I’m so happy for you dear!” Queen Delia said with a smile. “Though I’ll be sad that you’ll be away for two years, I want for you to be happy like any mother would want for their children.”
“Thanks mom.” Said Ash.
“So when do you think you’ll leave the kingdom?” Asked Clemont.
“Yeah it’s not like you can just go now.” Said Dawn.
“I can send a letter to the mayor of the Harbor town in the east to arrange a ship to sail to Celesta Island. Perhaps we can arrange for you to sail in maybe five days.” Said Oak
“Sounds good.” Ash said.
“I’ll head to my quarters and write the letter immediately. You don’t mind if I borrow your Staraptor to deliver the message do you? He is your fastest Flying type you know.” The Counselor asked.
“Not at all.” Ash said with a grin.
“In that case, why don’t we have a big feast to celebrate?” The Queen suggested. “Sir Brock, would you be a dear and please run down to the town market and gather some ingredients for Cilan and his brothers?"

At that instant, Sir Brock sprinted into the castle at a blinding speed and came back wearing his apron and holding a basket.

“Queen Ketchum, your highness, your wish is my command, just say the word and I’m at your service.” He rapidly said with pride as he bowed before the Queen, not noticing Mimey skipping along passed him. When Brock noticed, he dashed towards Mimey and they struggled to get inside.
“I’ll do it!” He grunted as they tried to push each other away from the door. “It’ll be your turn tomorrow!”
The two of them managed to go through and they raced into the hall and towards the front entrance of the castle, leaving everybody sweat dropping at what they just saw.
“That’s scary” Said a surprised Sir Drew.
“Worst thing is, they forgot my shopping list.” Said the Queen.
Nobody said anything for a few seconds.
“Hurry back.” She kindly said to her son as she handed the list to him, making him yell in surprise.

Unknown to them, a Spearow was perched on the branch of one of the trees in the courtyard. It overheard the entire conversation and flew off back to town to spread the word.

(Five days later)

News have begun to spread around the kingdom about the prince’s invitation. Many were thrilled about his invitation, while others were saddened about his departure. Whenever Ash had a stroll through town, the people would approach and congratulate him on his invitation. Prince Ash has spent the next five days making preparations for his departure.

Though Ash was glad that he was allowed to bring all of his Pokémon with him, he figured that he should leave his Bulbasaur behind because he is well known for keeping the peace between the other Pokémon. When Ash told Bulbasaur, he agreed. Ash was glad and he knows that Bulbasaur won’t let him down and will do a great job. Ash also decided to only take one of his thirty Tauros with him since one Tauros is all he needs.

The night before his departure, he and his friends had a big going away feast, which all of the food was cooked by not only Cilan and his brothers, but Brock and Clemont as well. After filling their stomachs, Ash and Pikachu decided to head for bed early since they’ll leave for the harbor town at dawn. Counselor Oak informed Ash that he’s allowed to choose two knights to accompany and escort him to the island and Ash chose Sir Brock and Sir Gary. Squire Max was even allowed to come along as well if he wanted to which, he excitedly agreed.

Ash woke up an hour before dawn and after eating a quick breakfast, everyone boarded their assigned carriages to leave. With one last look at the castle, Ash and Pikachu boarded their carriage and off. Unknown to them, the Pichu Bros. and their friends had snuck into the castle the night before. All of them are wearing makeshift knapsacks while Whooper had his carried around by Tyrogue since Whooper has no arms, and are now secretly riding at the back of the last carriage without anyone noticing.

We now find everyone standing before a giant, wooden ship named the HMS Legacy with a Milotic masthead at the docks of the harbor town that is only a few hours away from the kingdom. As the ship’s cargo was halfway to being loaded, Ash figured that now is the time to say goodbye to everyone. He brought out all of his Pokémon so they can say goodbye as well.

“Well, I guess this is it.” Ash said as he faced everyone.

His mother was the first one to approach him.
“Now Ash, I want you to study hard and be on your best behavior while in class.” She told him. “I also want for you to be yourself and make as much friends as you can.”
“Don’t worry Mom, I will.” He promised with a smile.
“And don’t forget to change your you-know-whats everyday honey.” The queen said.
“MOM!” Ash yelled in protest.
“Queen Delia only giggled to this before she threw her arms around her son and gave him a tight hug.
“Goodbye Ash.” She said sweetly with a sniff as tears flowed from her eyes before kissing his cheeks and forehead. “I love you.”
“Love you too Mom” Ash replied as he returned the hug.

Reluctantly, the queen parted from the hug and Ash moved on to Counselor Oak.
"Good Luck out there Ash my boy. I hope you’ll have fun out there.” Oak said as he shook the prince’s hand.
“You can count on it sir.” Ash said with confidence. “I might even catch a few pokemon while I’m there.”
“Good to know. And be sure to say hello to Headmaster Sycamore for me.” The counselor said.
“I will.” Ash said.

He then went over to Misty, who was kissing Sir Gary before he boarded the ship with Sir Brock.
“Take care sire.” She said.
“You too Misty.” He said to the handmaiden. ”I hope you’ll have some fun while I’m gone.”
“I hope so too.” She replied. “I might even catch some new Water Pokémon while I’m at it.”
“You do that, and I’ll be looking forward to meeting them when I come home.” Ash said

Next, he went over to Tracey.
“Bye Tracey. Keep on making more sketches and paintings.” He said to the royal artist.
“You can count on me sire.” Said Tracey. You know that my Smeargle and I make a really good team when it comes to art.”
“Good to know.” Ash said with a chuckle.

Next, Ash moved on to May who was hugging Max.
“Have a good time Ash.” She said.
“Thanks May. I will.” Ash replied.
“Make sure Max doesn’t get into any trouble.” May told him.
“Relax May, he’s only gonna gone for a few days. Max, Brock and Gary will be back once they dropped me off at Celesta Island.” Ash assured her.
“I know, but just keep him out of trouble.” May said.
“We will.” Ash assured.

Ash then approached Dawn.
“So Dawn, think you can have a good time while I’m gone?” He asked the third handmaiden.
“No need to worry your majesty.” Dawn said her catchphrase with a smile.
“Why is it that whenever you say that is when I worry the most?” Ash said jokingly.
“Ha ha ha. Very funny.” Dawn said sarcastically making Ash laugh.
“Take care Dawn.” He told her before he held his arm in the air.
“You too sire.” She replied as she high fived the prince.

Ash then went over to Sir Drew and Sir Kenny.
“You guys can keep the kingdom safe while I’m gone right?” He asked as he shook their hands.
“Don’t worry Sire.” Assured Sir Drew “We’ll do everything we can to keep the kingdom safe.”
“Yeah. You go on and study out there and we’ll do our duty here.” Added Sir Kenny.

Next, Ash went up to Cilan and Iris.
“Don’t be such a little kid out there Ash” Iris said jokingly.
“And you try not to freak out at every Ice type you see at winter.” Ash said back. Just mentioning Ice types made Iris shudder in fear, which made Ash and Cilan laugh.
“I’ll be sure to calm her down your majesty.” Said Cilan. “And I’ll be sure to cook a huge feast for your return."
“Thanks Cilan.” Ash said.

Ash then approached Clemont and Bonnie next.
“Have fun out there sire.” Said Clemont.
“You bet I will Clemont.” Ash said before he turned to Bonnie.
“Can I count on you to take good care of my Bulbasaur and the rest of the Tauros?” He asked.
“You can count on me! And I’ll also try to find a good wife for Clemont. She said with glee.
“BONNIE!!! I told you a million times to stop with that!” Clemont yelled in protest.
“But I can’t take care of you forever big brother.” Bonnie said with a pout. “You need a good wife who will take good care of you."
“Believe me Bonnie.” Sir Brock called out from the ship “You have no idea how much I tried find a beautiful girl for myself!” Everybody then laughed at the knight's remark.

As everyone was busy laughing, Ash heard a voice from behind.

“Um… Ash,”

He turned to see Serena standing before him with her hands behind her back and a blush on her face.

“What is it Serena?” Ash asked kindly.
“C-Can I t-talk to you for a minute before you go? In p-private?” She asked shyly.
Ash wasn’t sure what Serena would want to talk to him about, but he decided that it couldn’t hurt.
“Ok, sure.” He said.

Serena then led the prince to an empty alley nearby. She made sure that they weren’t followed. She sighed in relief when she sees that nobody did. She then turned to Ash.
“So, I guess this is it.” She said.
“Yeah.” Ash replied.
“Are you going to be ok out there?” she asked
“I’m sure it’ll be fine Serena” He assured.
“But what if something happens to you while you’re there?” She asked with concern. “If anything happens to you I just… I just…” Serena couldn’t find the right words to complete her sentence. She was about to tear up and cry when she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders.
“Serena, look at me.” Ash told her.
Serena moved her head up until her sapphire blue eyes met the prince’s chocolate brown ones. Serena felt her heart melt as she stared deep into Ash's eyes.
“I’ll be just fine Serena.” He said calmly. “I don’t want you to worry about me. I just want for you to be happy and I’ll be be home before you know it. Don’t give up till it’s over. Right?” He finished with a toothy grin.
Once again, Serena’s heart melted as she sees Ash’s smile and heard his signature catchphrase he told her the day they met. Feeling calm, she smiled back at Ash, not feeling slightest bit worried anymore.
“Right.” She said. But just to be safe, she wanted to be sure that he’ll be true to his word. "But I want you to promise me one thing.” She told him.
“What’s that?” Ash asked curiously.

Serena took a deep breath, placed her hands on the prince's shoulders and slowly, she stood on her toes and leaned in until her lips were pressed soundly against his cheek. The moment she felt her lips touch his skin, Serena felt an explosion of happiness and bliss erupt inside her as she kissed Ash’s cheek and she didn't want to let go. This was one of the many things she wanted to do to Ash since she met him.

Needless to say, Ash was shocked at what Serena was doing. He felt how soft and moist Serena’s lips were as they were pressed firmly against his cheek. He couldn’t explain, but he felt his face heat up as his cheeks went as red as a tomato, his heart pounding as if it were to burst out of his chest at any moment and his stomach tighten like a knot. Never, in his entire life, had he been kissed on the cheek by anyone but his mother. It was truly something he never felt inside of him before.

Though the kiss only lasted for about fifteen seconds, both of them felt like it lasted forever. Reluctantly, Serena parted her lips from Ash’s cheek and stared lovingly at his eyes.

“Just come home safely.” She answered his question with a sweet smile.

Ash said nothing for a moment as he was trying to piece back what just happened. When he came to his senses, he smiled.
“Alright Serena. I promise I’ll come home safe and sound.” He promised.
“Good. Now let’s head back to the dock. You have a ship to board.” Serena said.
“Right.” Ash agreed, and the both walked back to the dock where every one was waiting for them.

Ash’s Pokémon were saying their goodbyes to the other Pokémon.
“Take care of yourself buddy.” Dawn’s Piplup said.
“You bet Piplup.” Pikachu replied.
“Have fun out there.” Iris’ Axew said.
“Thanks Axew. You too.” Said Pikachu.
"See ya around big buddy!" Squeaked Bonnie's Dedenne.
"You too little buddy!" Pikachu said.
“Try not to shock anyone when they give you a bone crushing hug.” Clemont’s Chespin said.
“And you try not to overstuff your face and stomach with so much food. Especially Serena’s baked goods.” Pikachu said back with a smirk as he jabbed his finger into Chespin’s stomach causing him to blush in embarrassment and the others to chuckle.

While Pikachu was saying goodbye to the other Pokémon, Serena’s Braixen approached Ash’s Frogadier who was staring out into the sea.
“Look, don’t get mushy Frogadier.” She calmly said, trying not to be shy around her crush. “I really don’t want this to be a long, sad goodbye.”
“I was just gonna say uh… well… you’re gonna need someone else to make your fur as nice and shiny as I do.” Frogadier said as he faced Braixen while rubbing the back of his head.
“Well then,” Braixen said with a giggle knowing how many times Frogadier helped her make her fur nice and beautiful with his frubbles. “I think I’ll use Piplup’s Bubblebeam on my fur in the meantime. He does a good job with Dawn’s hair, I'll bet it’ll do the same for me. And I’ll be sure to look my very best when you get back.”
“Good idea Braixen.” Frogadier said with a smile.
“But you know,” Braixen continued. “This might as well be the last time you see me.”
“Don’t say that Braixen!” Frogadier exclaimed. “This isn’t goodbye forever!”
“I didn’t mean it like that silly!” Braixen replied with a giggle. “I meant that it might as well be the last time you see me as a Braixen and I see you as a Frogadier. All I‘m saying is that when we see each other again, we may have fully evolved.”
“Oh.” Frogadier said now understanding Braixen’s words.
“If that is going to happen, then I might as well give you something right here and now to remember me by while I’m still a Braixen.” She said.
“Really? And what might that be?” Frogadier asked curiously.
“This.” Braixen said as she gently took a hold of Frogadier's face, leaned in and firmly kissed both of his cheeks. She held those positions for about 10 seconds each as she felt happy inside that she got to kiss her crush. When she parted her lips, Frogadier blushed furiously as his bluish amphibious skin became a deep shade of red.

Dawn’s Buneary saw Braixen’s move on Frogadier and smiled at how cute the two looked together. Suddenly, she figured she should do the same for her crush. She hopped over to Pikachu, who was saying goodbye to Tracey’s Scyther. She tapped Pikachu’s head with one of her ears. When Pikachu turned around, he saw Buneary smiling brightly at him.
“Hi Buneary." He greeted kindly as he smiled back. "Have you come to say goodb-“ Pikachu couldn’t finish when Buneary suddenly grabbed his face and kissed both of his cheeks deeply and passionately. Pikachu was dumbfounded at what she did and couldn’t help but blush.
“Goodbye Pikachu. I’ll miss you.” Buneary said lovingly as she buried her blushing face in her fur and hopped away.
“I’ll miss you too Buneary.” Pikachu said quietly.

Unbeknownst to anyone the Pichu Posse was hiding behind some large crates.
“Ok guys, remember the plan.” Pichu Big began. “We’ll sneak in aboard the ship and hide in the cargo hold.”
“That way, we’ll be able to go wherever Mr. Pikachu is going and we’ll still be able to have fun with him for the two years.” Pichu Little finished the explanation.
“Let’s do this!” Magby exciredly said.
“This is gonna be fun!” Said Teddiursa.
“This is gonna be our biggest adventure yet.” Said Tyrogue.
“Yeah! I can’t wait!” Agreed Whooper.
“It’s a good thing Azumarill agreed to take care of the clubhouse while we’re gone.” Said Smoochum.
“Yeah. I'd hate to see what would happen if she didn’t agree.” Said Cleffa.
“Come on guys! Lets get aboard while we still have a chance!” Said Pichu Big.
The Pichu Posse jumped off the dock and landed on one of the ship’s anchor chains. The carefully climbed the chain into the porthole without any one noticing.

When it was finally time, Prince Ash called all of his Pokémon back into his Pokégem while Pikachu jumped to his shoulder and with some last hugs and kisses from his mother, he boarded the Legacy. Once they got on board, the dockhands raised the gangplank. Soon, the anchors were raised and the sails were set. Ash made his way towards the stern where he and Pikachu waved goodbye to everyone, who all waved back as the ship began to move.

Everyone kept waving until they couldn’t see the prince’s face anymore as the Legacy sailed further away from the dock. Serena however wanted to do one last thing before they left the dock. She made sure that no one was looking at her before she close her eyes, clasped her hands together and began a silent pray to Arceus.

'Please keep him safe.' She prayed. 'Please watch over Prince Ash and protect him from harm.'
Once she finished her pray, Serena kissed her hand and blew it out towards the ship.

“I love you Ash Ketchum.” She whispered quietly as she held her hands over her heart as the wind blew past her. “I love you so much.”

As the ship continued to sail away from the land, Prince Ash felt something soft touch his cheek as the wind blew.
“Huh?” He said as he wondered what he felt.
“Something wrong your majesty?” Squire Max asked.
Ash thought for a moment before he shrugged it off.
“It’s nothing. It was just the wind” He said.
He then held his hand on the other cheek where Serena kissed him.
'I promise Serena, I will return.' He said mentally.
“Well Pikachu, are you ready for a big adventure?” He asked his partner.
“Pikachu!” Pikachu replied with excitement.

Ash smiled as he and Pikachu looked out towards the horizon, excited to see what’s in store for them at Celesta Island. They don’t know what will happen, but one things for sure...

This will be an experience they’ll never forget.

I think this song would be suitable for when Ash sets out on his adventure-
